Just another Carson Con
“The city council has an opportunity to allow the Carson voters an opportunity to really decide these issues” City Manager Kenneth Farfsing, August 11, 2016
The People’s Climate March
The People’s Climate March was a great day, with Jane Fonda, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., organizations and it is being reported more than 5,000 people came together to stand up for the health and well being of our community. There was no sign of any Carson official at this event (you will find them in some of the photos below take at events on Saturday). Could it be the donations made to them or their pet projects are keeping them from standing with us? Is it their allegiance to the corporations, which kept them from alerting the public about the plans to build the largest refinery in the Western United States here in Carson?

60 MINUTES – Oklahoma’s Rise in Quakes Linked to Man-Made Causes
If you missed 60 Minutes regarding oil-drilling earthquakes, you need to look at what the people who hold elected positions in the City of Carson voted to do to not just Carson but to the South Bay. One of these oil-drilling earthquakes shook 14 states. This report was emailed to city council and staff before the 2nd reading of the oil & Gas. 60 Minutes Overtime
Inaccurate/fraudulent statements made to force extreme oil drilling on the Newport-Inglewood fault
City Attorney Sanaz (Sunny) K. Soltani made the statement that the loophole is not a loophole, it’s a legal standard”. In fact, it is a loophole, which makes the residents responsible for the expected profits of the operator. Appointed Mayor Albert Robles and assistant city attorney Shannon L. Chaffin’s states there will be no drilling operations/production in residential areas. The truth of the matter is they will be drilling directly under our homes. Inaccurate/fraudulent statements also include “we have no water injection for disposal”; California standard is the wastewater is to be injected into the same formation/zone that is producing the oil and water. This activity is exactly what has caused Oklahoma to go from 2 earthquakes a year to 857 magnitudes 3 or greater in 2015. If they presented clear and accurate information this ordinance would never pass. Continue reading
Carson California USA Invites Oil Drilling and Fracking into the South Bay
Carson city council votes to welcome oil drilling on the Newport-Inglewood fault into our densely populated South Bay Communities. Among many other things, they voted to allow oilrigs 750ft from our residential communities, oil drilling directly under our homes and schools, and to make the residents responsible to pay more than 4 billion dollars to stop fracking. Oxy Earthquakes
New evidence needed to stop drilling has been presented to the City of Carson
In light of the recent increase of earthquakes here in Carson, Carson Connected requested Dr. Tom Williams to do some research on earthquakes. Dr. Tom found form 1940 to 2014 (64 years) we had averaged less than 1 earthquake a year within a 1 mile radius of the Oxy Project. Which brings us to the first 9 months of 2015, we have had 7 earthquakes, and the only thing we are aware of going on within the 1 mile radius is Oxy and the fact they have resumed and stepped up production this year.
South Bay 1 week 5 earthquakes all originated in Carson
Oxy again?
It is being said around Carson that Occidental Petroleum aka Oxy aka California Resources Corporation is behind the persecution of Albert Robles. That his illegal activity is being exposed because he called for a moratorium.
If Albert Robles is really against the contamination and earthquakes oil drilling brings then he should step up and protect the city and residents of Carson. At Tuesday’s council meeting he should call an end to the assault on the city and residents of Carson by calling for an emergency item to be added to the agenda. He should call for a vote on No New Drilling in Carson and that all existing wells be limited to conventional drilling.

Week of August 30 – September 5, 2015
The yellow dots show the location of all earthquakes in the South Bay area last week.
4 hit centered around the Oxy Project location, and the other possibly an aftershock that hit near city hall.

City staff told us they checked with Oxy who stated the Oxy Project is NOT fracking, or water flooding. Without well stimulation they are causing damage to our city. Our city attorney has stated if we ban fracking it would be an automatic unwinnable quarter of a million dollar lawsuit. We received reports the planning commission is ready to pass a ban on fracking. If this ban is passed, it will allow more wells like the 2 Oxy is operating which can be tract to all 5 earthquakes last week. We’ve already begun the process of becoming another Oklahoma who went from 2 to 875 earthquakes a year. Oklahoma Report
Given these facts there should be No New Drilling in Carson. The City of Carson has a right to ban new drilling which will keep the damage to a minimum and allow some wells to remain. So let’s ban ALL New Drilling in Carson the same as other cities have and eliminate the threat of exposure to contamination, earthquakes, and lawsuits.
Importance of the oil ordinance to Carson Companies
In this letter from Carson Companies in the paragraph entitled Importance of the oil ordinance to Carson Companies it is stated 98% of the mineral rights belong to individuals and charities that have been gifted interest, they estimate the value of oil to be worth $2.5 to 4 billion.
They want to make the city and the residents responsible for the bad business decisions made to populate the land that contains oil, and not keeping any of the surface rights. They want us to make good on gifts they gave. Nowhere in this letter does it address the earthquakes drilling along the fault causes.
If this ordinance passes, it gives our rights to protect our people, community, and future over to those interested in getting the oil out from under our homes. Banning New Drilling is mealy a community exercising their rights.
The South Bay has had a dramatic rise in earthquakes since drilling has been amped up.
The maps below show the difference in earthquakes since the Oxy Project came to Carson.
Earthquake southwest of Compton, felt in Torrance
Earthquake southwest of Compton, felt in Torrance
The map shows this earthquake to be along the New Port/Inglewood fault. Southwest of Compton could it be Carson? Why are they not saying Carson?
Illegal Activities
It seems necessary to remind everyone in the oil industry that any new drilling that goes on while the residents are fighting the corrupt politicians will be subject to removal. The residents are working to protect the true history and purpose of the City of Carson, which is to stop bad projects that contaminate our communities. The well documented illegal activities will void any permits granted.
Oxy made this mess and they should foot the bill to clean it up!!!
