Carson Chamber of Commerce Connection
Carson residents were robbed of our voice and the protection of our moratorium.
The Carson Chamber of Commerce lead the charge and participated in the busing, feeding and instructing union members and the business community what to say at our public hearing. They have mailed out fraudulent claims of this project being an environmentally friendly natural gas production project. Carson Chamber of Commerce President John Wogan and Chairman Walter Neal have publicly stated they have not read the Draft Environmental Impact Report. It was also stated that the Carson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve the Oxy project.

THE CARSON LEGACY Environmental Pioneer’s Efforts Continue In Prophetic Coincidence
Written by Albert Robles
Today, Monday, April 14, 2014, we commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the passing of Rachel L. Carson. She is credited by environmentalists and concerned citizens around the world as the Mother of the Environmental Movement for her pivotal role in raising awareness of man-made threats to the environment. Her seminal work, Silent Spring ignited a grassroots environmental consciousness that led to cleaner air, cleaner water and ultimately to the formation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Needless to say, Silent Spring remains required reading in environmental courses and the environmental movement she started continuous.

I am requesting that you please forward this email to other members of your Anti-Big Oil networks, so that they can get a sense that fracking is a worldwide problem, and what it looks like in a country where people have not raised their voices against it. And what the oil corporations are up to across the world.

China Takes On Big Risks in Its Push for Shale Gas
New York Times
By KEITH BRADSHERAPRIL 11, 2014
JIAOSHIZHEN, China — Residents of this isolated mountain valley of terraced cornfields were just going to sleep last April when they were jolted by an enormous roar, followed by a tower of flames. A shock wave rolled across the valley, rattling windows in farmhouses and village shops, and a mysterious, pungent gas swiftly pervaded homes. Continue reading
Are our city officials and staff on top of the moratorium?
I want to know what you think. Send me an email lnoflin@carsoncaconnected.org or post your thoughts here.
It seems the moratorium will expire if there not on top of it. City Council Item #25 is a request to cancel or reschedule the April 15th council meeting. Link to item 25 staff report.
According to updated information received from our city attorney, the city must issue a report by April 22, 2014, the deadline to extend the moratorium is May 2, 2014, it requires a 10 day notice and 4/5th vote of the council.
It is very important we attend city council meetings until a satisfactory resolution of this matter is obtained and oil drilling in Carson is no longer a danger to us.
We’ve worked too hard to allow it to slip away.
Let City Council know the only thing that needs to expire is the Carson’s positions held by anyone who tries to block the extension of the Moratorium on Hydraulic Fracturing and Ban on New Oil Drilling in the City of Carson

Moratorium Extension versus China Trip
By Glenn White
Ten days prior to the expiration of the ordinance, the City Council must issue a written report describing the measures taken to alleviate the condition that led to the adoption of the ordinance. (Gov’t Code Section 65858(d).) As it read this it’s impossible to provide such a report earlier than the deadline date, as those conditions haven’t had their opportunity to be alleviated.
