Our fight with Oxy is not over
By Latrice Carter
Hello Everyone,
Our fight with Oxy is not over. It’s time for ALL Carson residents to come out in numbers to the Emergency City Council Meeting on 4/29/14. If you care about your home and your neighborhood, this is the time to prove it and stand up for your rights to health, property and a safe environment in our neighborhoods.
Watson Land and Oxy are making FALSE promises to union workers. Promising them many jobs that will not be there for long term employment. These workers are misinformed and are only looking for a way to bring money to their families. However, all money isn’t good money and a job that will kill you or your children, should not be a job that you should want to do. I don’t fault the unemployed workers for seeking employment, but I do fault the companies that are feeding them lies and false hope. Tonight at the Council Meeting Carson residents were up against these Union(s) and we will be up against them again at the April 29, 2014 meeting.
We have been fighting against this oil drilling project since late 2011 early 2012. We have traveled to many different cities to let others know how detrimental this project would be in Carson. Just last month we went to Sacramento and I spoke at the Anti-Fracking Rally. In the link below you can witness my speech and see how many other Californians are fighting against the oil companies methods of “fracking” and other extremes of oil extraction. Carson, we are not alone in this fight!
But we must not get tired, we cannot stop fighting. We cannot wait for the devastation to happen and then wonder how it happened. We cannot blame others if WE don’t stand up against this oil drilling project. We are nearing the finish line, but the race in this marathon is not over.
Please come out and support the continuation of the Moratorium to stop all forms of extreme oil extractions here in Carson until it can be proven to be safe to our health, environment and neighborhoods.
The Emergency Council Meeting will be held on April 29, 2014 at the Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center at 6:00 p.m. I encourage you to get there early and put in your comment card so you can be called on prior to all of the union members speaking.
Again, this is the link to witness what happened in Sacramento
Thanks and please pass on,
Latrice Carter
