Occidental Petroleum looks to drill for oil in Carson
Occidental has operated two test wells on the Carson site for the past year and had good results. The company anticipates drilling as deep as 2 1/2 miles, then turning horizontally to get better access to the Dominguez Oil Field. The field was first discovered in 1923 and has since produced 274 million barrels of oil. Occidental expects to procure 6,000 barrels of oil daily, along with 3 million standard cubic feet of natural gas, once the new wells are built.
