NOT IN OUR BACK YARDS Benzene and methane was detected in the Carousel Tract here in Carson, CA in 2008. This community was built on top of a retired oil tank farm that was improperly cleaned up. And even though Shell was found to be the responsible party, the families residing in this community have not witnessed adequate action taken by Shell to correct this problem.  

The American Petroleum Institute in 1948 stated that

“it is generally considered that the only absolutely safe concentration for benzene is zero. Benzene targets liver, kidney, lung, heart and the brain and can cause DNA strand breaks. Benzene causes cancer in both animals and humans”.
